Whether you’re vegan or vegetarian, or you simply want to make a positive impact on the world, it’s time to bring that philosophy to your beauty regimen. There are three easy things you can do to make sure that your beauty products are cruelty-free, meaning you can feel good and look good.
1. Look for a “Cruelty-Free Bunny”
Leaping Bunny is an organization that puts its cute jumping rabbit logo on products that is certified as cruelty-free. There are two other bunny logos that also signify cruelty-free – PETA’s big-eared Caring Consumer rabbit and the less common Choose Cruelty-Free Rabbit. Any of these three logos on your products signify that the product is fully cruelty-free down to every last ingredient. It’s an easy way to visually verify that your products do not harm animals in any way.
2. Make Your Own Masks & Treatments
When you make things yourself, you know they are cruelty-free. Whip up nourishing hair treatments, face masks, and skin scrubs with ingredients that you have laying around your kitchen. Who knew that you already had a spa inside your house in the form of a fridge and a produce basket?
A simple online search will bring you tons of ideas for exfoliating sugar scrubs, moisturizing face masks and luxurious hair treatments that will cost less than store-bought products and make you look just as great.
3. Support Local Beauty Artisans
Cruelty-free typically refers to businesses who don’t use animal-derived ingredients or test on animals, but we also have to think of our fellow humans. Large corporations aren’t always the best at compassion for their global workers. Some of the largest makeup companies still use child labor for ingredient sources, and while they are trying to ameliorate the situation, there’s nothing as good as knowing exactly where your beauty products came from. Search for artisans making beauty products in your area for true peace of mind. At the very least, do your research on any cosmetic company’s employment and sourcing practices before you buy.
With these tips, your beauty can make you look good and contribute to well-being in your local community and globally. It proves you don’t have to mimic Cruella Deville’s style to be beautiful!
